Introducing Cost DeepDive: An analysis tool for your AWS CUR 🔎

Today, Cloudshim is excited to announce the launch of Cost DeepDive: An analytics tool built on AWS Cost & Usage Report. The best part, this feature is included in the Free Tier.

AWS Cost Explorer provides usage information at a high level and not enough granularity for detailed operations. The Cost Deepdive is built on the AWS CUR and is customizable, allowing customers to slice and dice their data to analyze their usage in-depth. Some example questions customers can now answer:

• What operations are contributing to the AWS Cloudwatch costs?

• How much are my S3 buckets costing, and what are the operation breakdowns?

• What are the data transfer costs associated with my resources?

• And much more…

With Cost DeepDive, customers can understand the unit economics of their AWS resources in a faster, effective, and more reliable way.

FAQs

What type of breakdowns can I see?

You can add as many slice & dice fields from the column selector. An example of the grain level you can slice for EC2 usage data (9 layers):

Account->Region->Availability Zone->Resource->Resource ID->Instance->Pricing Term->Operation->Usage->Cost

How about filtering the data?

You can filter the data on specific added columns, e.g., view operation data for EC2. You may add a filter on RunInstance and c4.large Instance. The table filtering further allows you to exclude data.

How is the visualization of the data?

There are two charts and a table. The Charts are fully customizable, and you may pass any column data to them. You may click a bar on the main chart to surface the data for that bar in the piechart and table. The main chart has four selectors for bar, line, area, and dual-axis chart.

Do I have access to Cost DeepDive?

If you are an existing customer, no additional steps are required for you to access Cost DeepDive. Click on the Cost DeepDive from the side menu.

If you are a new customer, you would need to signup and onboard.

Does Cost DeepDive hit AWS Cost Explorer APIs?

Cost DeepDive is built 100% on the CUR; hence you will incur no API charges to access and use this.
